Sacramental Preparation

Reconciliation

Preparation is done in November, December, and January. We will send the book home at the end of the unit with the expectation that you as parents will review the unit with your child. We will also send home a packet containing some parent information, some at-home activities, and a copy of the Act of Contrition for you to practice with your child. We also do a week long review in late January or early February to refresh the children's memories.

You will have a Parent Meeting in your individual parishes prior to the celebration of the sacrament. Please watch your church bulletin for these dates and times. As your parish date approaches, please review with your child by practicing a mock Reconciliation. Answer their concerns and questions with positive reassurance.

First Communion

We begin the preparation in January and it continues through May. In addition to the textbook, the children will compile a Mass booklet and help plan and participate in several Masses. We also do a community service project at Christmas, a special bread-baking project, make a Eucharistic symbol in art class, and view several videos and filmstrips. We will again send the book home after each unit with the expectation that you as parents will study and review with your child.

You will have a Parent Meeting in your individual parishes concerning the First Eucharist as well. Please watch for announcements and reminders from your individual parishes. After all the children have made their First Communion in their individual parishes, we celebrate as a school and have a special Mass to honor all the second graders. It will be held on Thursday, May 12th at 8:30 a.m. You will receive much more detailed information about this in the spring.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. Our school number is 757-5500.
