2K LOVES LEARNING ABOUT PENGUINS

2K's latest theme from our reading series is Amazing Animals. Penguins looked so amazing that we decided to learn about them. We will learn about them and do many penguin projects as we take a closer look at these great birds!

Penguin

I think it must be very nice
To stroll about upon the ice,
Night and day, day and night,
Wearing only black and white,
Always in your Sunday best-
Black tailcoat and pear-white-vest.
To stroll about so pleasantly
Beside the cold and silent sea
Would really suite me to a T!
I think it must be very nice
To stroll with Penguins on the ice.

We became Emperor Penguins for the day. We learned that the daddy emperor takes care of his egg for TWO MONTHS while the mommy penguin goes to sea to eat. It's the daddy's job to protect, care for and keep the egg warm. So that's what we did! Our eggs went everywhere we went. It was a great time!

Here we are with our "penguin eggs".
We took good care of our eggs.
    (Only a few cracked!  OOPS!)

We made a penguin cookie treat!
Here's what you need and how to make it:
You need 2 Oreo Cookies and 1 candy orange slice. Tear the orange slice into 3 pieces. "Unscrew' one of the Oreo cookies, and break the other Oreo in half. The 2 pieces will serve as the flippers (wings). The part of the whole cookie that has the white filling will be the stomach. The plain part of the whole cookie will be the head. (Some of our head pieces still had white filling on them, so we just flipped them over). 1 piece of the orange slice will be the beak and the other two will become the feet.
    Enjoy!

We made penguins for our room.
They greet our visitors and welcome them to our classroom.

We even had penguin egg relay races! Could we keep the eggs on our feet and still move like penguins?  It was TRICKY!

    We loved learning about penguins!
