Dear 2K Families,

Here is an update on all our latest activities for April.

Religion:  The parts of the mass are our focus as part of the preparation for Holy Communion.  The children are learning that the mass is divided into two parts:  the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist.  2K will lead the mass on April 17, 2008 at 8:30.  Please mark your calendars!  We hope you can join us.

Reading:  Please continue to listen and/or read with your child on a daily basis.  They should be bringing their reader home weekly (usually on Wednesdays) to reread the story we are working on for the week. .

Cursive:  We are working hard on the lower case letters.  The children are doing a great job learning the letters and seem very enthusiastic about writing in cursive.  I am very proud of their hard work!

Math:  We have finished adding and subtracting two-digit numbers…but don’t stop practicing those math facts at home!  We are continuing taking our time tests and the students REALLY need to know their facts before the end of the year.  There are ten time tests for second grade and what an accomplishment for your child to know their math facts!  This can usually be accomplished by working on their facts at home!  We are also still working on counting money and telling time.  Please have your child practice this at home.  We will then learn about place value to the thousands and adding and subtracting three-digit numbers.

Science:  We are learning about the human body and will be learning about space in the next few weeks.  We will learn about the sun as well as some interesting facts about the planets.

Social Studies:  We will be focusing on the overall history of our country, including Native Americans, our freedom from England along with understanding the importance of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln to our country’s history.

Other:  Many children are out of pencils, red checking pencils, glue sticks or erasers.  PLEASE check with your child to see what supplies they may need.  Thank you!

We are looking forward to our Flat Stanleys returning later this month.  You can visit our website to see photos of us sending our Stanleys off on their adventures as well as to see where all of our Stanleys visited.
