Mrs. Kelly's Second Graders Create Gingerbread Houses

gingerbreadkids

Mrs. Kelly (and Mrs. Kelly's sister, niece and a very special family friend) shared her family tradition of making gingerbread houses with us.
We were so excited to create our own gingerbread house to take home for the holidays.
A BIG thank you to all our families who donated the goodies that helped make our houses!

Are you wanting to make more wonderful gingerbread houses?
Here's how we did it!

Supplies

  • Royal Icing, made with meringue powder
  • 6 full Nabisco Graham Crackers
  • Cardboard square-approximately 8 inches by 8 inches
  • Frosting decorating tips and frosting bag
  • Various candies for decorating

  • Mix the royal icing, following the recipe on the back of the meringue powder. It needs to fairly thick to hold the house together

  • Cut two of the graham crackers for the front and back end of the house. Dampen slightly one end of each cracker and cut into a triangle shape. You should still have one whole cracker, just with one end cut
  • Using the royal icing in the frosting tube, assemble the house on the cardboard piece, arranging two complete crackers for the side walls, the two cut pieces for the ends of the house and two complete crackers for the roof
  • Allow to set, this only takes a few minutes
  • Use the royal frosting and candies to decorate
  • HAVE FUN AND ENJOY
