Mrs. Kelly's Second Grade Homework Page ![]()
Here you will find
information about the basic homework you can expect throughout the year in 2K. The rationale for homework in the second grade is to develop study skills and responsibility. Students should spend no more than twenty minutes a night completing their homework. Parents are asked to provide supervision and assistance when necessary. Children are expected to do their best work. Children are not expected to do all the subjects listed below every night. One night practice math facts, the next night practice their reading words, etc. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Kelly @ 757-5500 or rkelly@setonschool.com. |

Spelling
![]() A pre-test on our words is given each Monday morning. The students will bring home their pre-test along with a study list. They are given a final test on Fridays. These tests will determine their spelling grade on their report card. There are no spelling tests during weeks with only 3 days of school. |
|
Reading
![]() When the reader is sent home,
the student is to reread the story we have been reading that week in school.
They are need to practice reading the vocabulary words that will be sent
home when a new unit is begun. In the beginning of the year, children will also bring home a copied story to read at home each week
that will be stapled to their reading newsletter. They should read
this story at least 3 times to a family member. Students should also read nightly for enjoyment.

Math
Children should
practice their math facts, through 18,
addition and subtraction. Second graders MUST learn their math
facts, addition and subtraction through 18, by the end of the year.
The students will be given math time tests to determine how well they
know their facts. Time
tests determine 15% of their math grade.

Religion
When the religion book is brought home, the
children are to review the current chapter for the test with a family
