The Pinewood Derby

The most famous of Cub Scout events, the Pinewood Derby, was held during the January pack meeting.  The boys had lots of fun racing their cars on the great track provided by Terry Wickey.  Mr. Wickey did a great job running the race.  Congratulations to the following boys who placed  1st, 2nd or 3rd in their dens:

Tiger: Max B, Logan S, Collin T

Wolf: Noah E, Noah B, Dawson T

Bear: Noah K, Sean C, Corey D

Webelos: Andy E, Trent C, Teddy G

Overall winners were 1st, Max B; 2nd, Trent C; and 3rd, Logan S.  Way to go!!  And the special winner of Best in Show goes to Will G for having the favorite car as voted on by the pack.  Congratulations to all the boys on a fun and spirited race!

Safe Kids Automobile Safety Program

Special thanks goes to Mr. Dave Mills and the Safe Kids Coalition! They donated their time and skills to put on the Safe Kids Automobile Safety Program for Pack 109! Many of the boys made their way to Mill's Chevrolet on Saturday, January 5th to learn about automobile safety.

Scout Sunday

Sacred Heart Catholic Church welcomed members of Pack 109 and Troop 109 to celebrate mass as part of Scout Sunday.  Our faith in God is a big part of scouting.  Reverence to God is important for the boys to learn.  During mass, two boys were recognized for their efforts to know God better and grow in their faith.  Congratulations to Trent C for completing the requirements to earn the Parvuli Dei emblem!  Also congratulations goes to Noah Blunt for completing the requirements to earn the Light of Christ emblem!  Both award recognize the special effort the boys put into learning and growing in their faith.

Upcoming Events!!

Blue & Gold Banquet

Monday, February 25th, 2008:  We will be having our Blue & Gold Banquet at the February Pack Meeting.  This is an exciting celebration of Cub Scouting.  This celebration has been going on for more than 65 years.  Our pack has been around for more than 50 years.  This year’s program is special because we will have many boys receiving their badge of rank.  In fact, we will award badges of rank from all levels of cub scouting (Bobcat, Tiger, Wolf, Bear, Webelos, and Arrow of Light).  This year’s theme is “Chinese New Year”.

Popcorn Camping

Saturday and Sunday, March 1 – 2, 2008:  This is a very special event for those who sold more than $500 in popcorn this past fall.  The popcorn sale was such a success and we had so many families sell more than $500 that we had to change locations and find a place that would hold all the people.  We will be starting our event at 2:00pm at Singing Bird Lodge at Blackhawk State Park.  We have lots of fun activities planned.  After dinner and campfire, we will move to Culemans Hall for nighttime activities and sleepover.  This great event will end on Sunday morning after a fine breakfast and Scout’s Own service.

Scouting For Food

Saturday, March 22, 2008: This is our annual food drive. The popularity of this event has grown over the years. We are looking to collect more food that ever before. We will meet at Culemans Hall at 9:00 Saturday morning.  Then we will go out and collect bags of food left on people’s porches and steps.  The previous weekend, Boy Scout Troop 109 will leave empty bags at homes with a note asking them to donation food.  All the food is donated to the food bank at Christ United Methodist Church.  This is one great way scouts can practice a Good Turn Daily!

Here's Pie in Your Face!!

The popcorn sale was an amazing success.  We surpassed every goal we set and generated enough income to provide a high quality scouting program for our cubs!  Because we surpassed our overall sales goal, the leadership of the pack had to take pies in the face from all the boys who sold popcorn.  It was a great time for the boys.  There are several pictures in the Photo Gallery.

Do You Like Our New Logo?

Special thanks goes to Jeff VanEchaute for designing our new Pack 109 Logo.  We have set up Pack 109 Gear that includes t-shirts and sweatshirts.  You can see many boys around school and den meetings wearing the new gear.  Jeff, thanks!!!
