Cub Scout Pack 109

Welcome to the Cub Scout Pack 109 home page!!  We are located in Moline, Illinois and serve Seton Catholic School and Lincoln-Irving School.  You will find information about who Pack 109 is and what Pack 109 does.  We have a calendar to reference for specific dates for our activities.  And we like to share pictures from our events!  We hope you find our site interesting and informative.

Special thanks go to Seton Catholic School and Sacred Heart Parish!  We are charted by Seton Catholic School.  Sacred Heart Parish provides our pack with a wonderful meeting place in Culemans Memorial Hall.  Both Seton and Sacred Heart give us outstanding support.  We are truly thankful and blessed to have these two organizations supporting us!  Thank you Seton!!  Thank you Sacred Heart!

If you have questions, concerns or other comments, please send an email to the Pack 109 Mailbox.

Pack 109 is an active pack involved in many activities throughout the year.  You can go to our on-line calendar for specific dates and information about our events.  Here are some of the activities we participate in during the year.

Activities organized by the Pack

Pack Meetings – We meet monthly as a pack (all dens and families).  Typically, we have a theme that our activities are centered around.  All the pack meetings are special, but there are a few that are extra special.  The annual Pinewood Derby races are held during our January pack meeting.  The Blue & Gold Banquet in February is our annual celebration of scouting.  The Cross-Over Ceremony during our March pack meeting is the graduation for our Webelos to Boy Scouts.  Our May pack meeting is combined with our Pack Campout and includes games, food, and a campfire program.

Den Meetings – From 2 to 3 times a month each den will have a meeting.  Dens use this time to work toward their achievements, try new things and have fun.

Campfire Programs – A couple times a year, we gather at a local park and have a campfire program.  The campfire program consists of skits, jokes, songs, awards, and stories.  These campfire programs have been very fun for the boys.

Field Trips – As part of working towards achievements, our dens regularly go on field trips to local businesses, museums, parks or government buildings.

Hiking – This is one of the favorite activities for the boys.  Our hikes give us the opportunity to teach the boys about nature, leave no trace and wildlife.

Popcorn Sale – Pack 109 has only one fundraiser during the year to provide funds for all our activities.  The annual Scout Popcorn Sale provides an opportunity for boys to “help the pack go” and have some fun too.  Pack 109 does not collect dues at meetings.

Pinewood Derby – The Pinewood Derby is one of the most popular events in Cub Scouting. Every year more than a million boys and parents team up to carve, decorate, weigh, adjust, fret over, and finally race a Pinewood Derby car. The first Pinewood Derby was held in 1953 by Cub Scout Pack 280C of Manhattan Beach, California, and as of 1991 (Ref. 1992 BSA Retail Catalog) more than 81 million Pinewood Derby model car kits have been sold. Wow!!

Scout Sunday – The day is meant to mark the founding of the Scouts in the United States.  Scouts go to their places of worship in uniform and help with the service.  These observances offer an opportunity for congregations to honor Scouts and Scouters, as well as to learn more themselves about the value of Scouting as a youth program.  Pack 109 gathers at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Moline to celebrate scouting and our faith.

Blue & Gold Banquet – Today, the Blue and Gold banquet is one of the highlights of the program year. It brings together our pack families for a dinner and an evening of fun. The meal is important, but even more important is the warm, congenial atmosphere created as families enjoy each other's company.

Camping – In May, we have a pack campout at a local county park campground.  This is often the first camping experience for the cubs.  So we try to make it special with camp fires, good camp food, hiking, games, and other activities.  As the boys go through the program, they have more opportunities to go camping with their den.  As Cub Scouts, camping is a family event.

Summertime Activities – Pack 109 is active in the summer too!  We participate in the district events held during the summer and have a few of our own.  Some of those activities may include a baseball game, a water-ski show, a swim party, a pack meeting, a service project, or other fun activities.

District Organized Events

The Saukenuk District organizes many events that cubs can enjoy.  Here are only a few. A Recruiting Event for new scouts based on the year’s theme.  Recruiting Events have included fishing and rocket launches.  A Roller Skating party is held every November.  All who attend will enjoy skating around in circles and playing games.  The music is fun too.  The annual Lock-In early in January is a popular event where the boys get to spend time enjoying all the activities at the local YMCA.  The Klondike Derby is a Boy Scouting event that allows second year Webelos to participate.  It’s an all day scouting skills competition.

Scouting for Food in March is a great service project that helps replenish food pantries in the district.  Cub Scout Day Camp is the highlight of the District’s year.  It is a great opportunity for cub scouts to spend a summer week having fun with their friends, participating in sports and games, doing crafts, swimming, and learning more about scouts.  Besides day camp, other Summertime Activities include going to a baseball game and enjoying a swim party.  Check out the following web site to get more information on district activities: http://www.illowabsa.org/saukenuk/.

Council Organized Events

The Illowa Council also organizes several events that are open to any cub in the Quad City Area.  Here are a few.  Halloween at Loud Thunder (H.A.L.T.) is a very popular event.  It is held every October and consists of games, food, a hay ride, and camping.  Webelos in the Woods is a camping event for Webelos to help them work on scouting skills and prepare them for Boy Scouts.

Along with the traditional Boys Scout camps, the council offers over-night Webelos and Family Camps.  Webelos Camp offer older cubs that are preparing for Boy Scouts the chance to earn requirements toward their activity badges.  Family Camp is a chance for families to enjoy a weekend camping event.  Check out the following web site to get more information on district activities: http://www.illowabsa.org/.
