Commission on Education Meeting Minutes

September 17, 2007

II.                   Opening Prayer: Msgr. Wellman

III.                  Recommendations:

A.   Roll Call: Fr. Levitt, Msgr. Wellman, J. Barrett, M. Cornelis, J. Scarpinato, K. Larsen,  M. Andrews, C. Morris, D. DeJaegher, T. Gronski, L. Hodge, and R. Graham; Absent: Fr. Pilon, B. Larsen, and S. Ronnebeck

B.   Minutes of May 7, 2007 read and approved.

C.   Election of officers for the 2007-2008 school year were held.

IV.                Reports:

A.      Financial: K. Larsen explained the budget variance.  There was an increase donation from Parents’ Club.  Received more than $75,000, which was offset by unbudgeted maintenance, work plus other items not budgeted.  The increase was enough that there was no need to touch the Endowment Revenue.  The largest change in the fringe benefits was because of insurance coverage.

B.      Finance Committee: Dave DeJaegher - No report

C.      School: J. Barrett reported on -

·         Diocesan handbook is on the website.  

·         Local policies – There are seven policies that will need to be reviewed this year.

·         Enrollment is 545 students, which is down.  There are 31 new families.  Believe enrollment is down due to demographics in Moline.

·         Hires:  new aide in kindergarten    –    Mrs. Clayton moved to 4th grade    –    New maintenance, Steve Meiresonne

·         Terra Nova testing is beginning.

·         There are three ˝ days built into the schedule for School Improvement Plan.  Working for Non-Public School recognition.

·         Renovated Elementary 2nd floor bathroom this summer.

D.      Parents’ Club: L. Hodge – Looking forward to the Boogie Nights in Oct. 

E.      Booster Club: L. Hodge/Mrs. Barrett – Golf outing was held today (Sep 17th).  Still looking for a Vice President and wreath sale will begin in October.

F.      Development: Judy Scarpinato - No report

V.         Strategic Planning Committee Reports

 A.    Financial: B. Larsen - No report

 B.    Education: R. Graham - No report

 C.    Marketing: J. Scarpinato -

         The May billboard that was put up in Rock Island did not get moved.  Still working to resolve that issue with company.   

         The bus with all five schools advertising will run through September. 

         Committee will work on getting a newsletter into the parish bulletins. 

         Committee will meet next week.

VI.        New Business

 A.    Visitors Comments: None

 B.    Policy Making: J. Barrett - The policy committee will be Msgr. Wellman, Mike Andrews and Connie Morris along with two teachers yet to be named.

 C.    Sub-Committee of the commission for sports will be formed if the need arises.

VII.            Executive Session: None

VIII.      Adjournment: 7:55 p.m.
