AS WE BEGIN  ANOTHER SCHOOL YEAR…

Welcome to a new school year.  I would like to extend a special welcome to all our new students and their families who are joining us this year.  The teachers and staff have been busy preparing and are ready to begin another exciting school year!  As you walk through the elementary and middle school buildings you will notice how neat and clean our facilities look.  A big thanks to our outstanding maintenance staff, Mr. Al DeJonghe, Ms. Evan Nache, and Mr. Brian Sprott.  Seton is so blessed to have these dedicated, hardworking people taking care of our school!

As we begin a new year, please know that the teachers and staff will strive to make this an exceptional year for the students. We want each family to be a part of their child’s educational experience.  Students are most successful when parents, teachers, and administrators work together.  If you ever have any questions, concerns or comments, please feel free to contact me.

Jane Barrett

PARENT/STUDENT HANDBOOK & CALENDAR…

As we begin a new school year please take time to look over the 2006-2007 calendar.  You will find some slight changes from past years.  It is essential that every parent/guardian read the Parent/Student Handbook.  The handbook contains important information that can answer many questions for families.  Seton School Athletic Handbook is also found in the Parent/Student Handbook.

*It is recommended that parents encourage their children in grades 5 though 8 to read through the handbook.

REMINDER TO SCHOOL VISITORS

All visitors, including parents, are required to stop in the school office and sign a visitors log and pick up an identification badge that is to be worn while in the building.

TUITION…

Monthly tuition payments are due in the school’s business office by the first day of each month, August through May.  Families are to contact the business office if there is a delay in their payment(s).

THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, PLEASE REMEMBER…

Absences – Please remember to call the school office no later than 9:00 a.m. on the days when your student is absent. In addition, a written note/excuse is needed for each absence.

Tardy – Students who arrive after 8:20 a.m. are considered tardy.  A written note/excuse is needed each time a student is tardy.

Arrival/Departure – Students should not arrive before 7:45 a.m.  All students are to be picked by 3:00 p.m.

Change in Information – Please be sure to contact the school office immediately if you have any changes in address, telephone numbers or emergency contacts.  The information you provide is the only way way the school has to contact you.

Student/Medication – There are times when medication must be given at school.  If your child needs to take medication during the school day, please, pick up a Medication Form in either school office and be sure to read the information in the Seton Parent Handbook. Please Note…a new medication form is required each year.

NEW STUDENT WELLNESS PLAN

In the Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act of 2004, the U.S. Congress established a new requirement that all school districts with a federally-funded school meals program develop and implement wellness policies that address nutrition and physical activity by the start of the 2006-2007 school year.  In response to this requirement the Diocese of Peoria has developed a Student Wellness Plan for all the schools of the diocese.  The purpose of this plan is also to ensure a total school environment that promotes and supports student health and wellness as well as helps reduce childhood obesity.  Implementation of the plan includes some changes to the types of food and beverages that will be served at Seton school functions. More information will follow.

    • Forms for DCFS and Fingerprint checks are available in either school office.

Please contact the principal if you have any questions. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding in this matter.

FUNDRAISING BUYOUT REMINDER

If you would like to make a donation of $250 to cover your family’s annual fund raising donations to various Seton activities, please use the “buy out” coupon located in the front of your tuition payment booklet.  The “buy out” option was introduced in response to those parents who indicated they would prefer that way of giving to the school.  Fund raising accounts for more than 8% of Seton’s annual budget.  The “buy out” option is in place of a family’s monetary donations to Seton fund raisers.  Volunteering time and talents to fund raisers is encouraged regardless of monetary donations.  The “buy out” is optional, and as always, your gifts to Seton are tax deductible and are very much appreciated.

UPCOMING TERRA NOVA TESTING

Parents, please remember that Terra Nova Testing for grades 2 through 8 begins on Wednesday, September 13th and continues through Tuesday, September 26th.  These standardized tests provide important information to help build the best educational program possible for each student.  Please DO NOT schedule routine appointments during this two week period.  If they are already scheduled, please try to reschedule.  Every effort will be made to make up missed tests, but due to time constraints no guarantee can be given.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
