LENT CONTINUES

Our Lenten journey of 40 days and 40 nights is meant to be a time of grace.  We are all asked to take time from our busy lives and ask ourselves how closely we are walking with Jesus.  It is not easy to quiet our minds and listen to the voice of God.

Here at school teachers are setting aside times for quiet prayer and reflection.  Students have been reminded of age-appropriate sacrifices they can offer during Lent.  Each grade level will be working on a service project as we reach out in charity to those around us.

We hope this is a season of growth and grace for our students and their families.

During Holy Week there will be several special services for our students.  Please check the attached calendar for the dates and times.

THANK YOU

Thank you to all the families that supported this year’s Spaghetti Dinner and Basket Raffle. The evening was a wonderful success. A special thanks to this year’s chair people Madonna Denton, Mary Anne Schaecher, Mary DeWitt, Sharon McLaughlin and Pam Thompson.

The game room was a success at the Spaghetti Dinner. We would like to thank the following for the wonderful prize donations: Hy Vee, Trinity, Jewel Augustana, Alleman, Modern Woodmen of America, McDonalds, Whitey’s, Royal Neighbors, Happy Joe’s and the VanDerGinst family.

A big thank you to all of the adults who helped with the games. The game room could not have been a success without you.

PARENTS' CLUB

A big thank you to Kathy Malcolm and the Parents' Club Teacher Appreciation Committee for hosting the Catholic Schools Week faculty luncheon. The salads and desserts were amazing, and the candle is a wonderful keepsake. The hours of planning and preparation spent by this committee throughout the school year is evident...and appreciated. Thank you!!!

There is a joint Parents’/Booster Club meeting planned for Thursday, April 8th at 7 p.m. in Culemans Hall.  It will again honor the families whose youngest child will be graduating this year.

For the Parents’ Club minutes, please check our Seton’s website, www.setonschool.com and click on news and events.

WALK-A-THON 2008…

Lace up your sneakers...this year’s Walk-A-Thon is just around the corner.  Mark your calendars for Friday, May 2nd, with a rain date of Friday, May 9th.  The Walk-A-Thon will kick-off with an all-school assembly on Friday, April 11th.  All the details of the Walk will come home with your student on that day.  Proceeds from this year’s walk will help to fund the new social studies curriculum for our school.  There are many opportunities to get involved…

Our Fundraising Committee seeks donations from individuals and businesses to cover the cost of our event including prizes, refreshments, supplies, etc. so that 100% of the pledges raised by our students can go to our school.  If you know of an individual or business that would be willing to help our cause, a donation form is attached to this newsletter.

Thanks to the generosity of our t-shirt sponsors McLaughlin Motors, Southeast National Bank and River Valley Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Ltd., each of our students will receive a Walk-A-Thon t-shirt at the kick-off assembly.  We also will be offering Walk-A-Thon t-shirts for sale to volunteers, parents, siblings and supporters of Seton School.  This year, the supporter t-shirt color will be red, and the cost will be $6 per shirt.  Be on the lookout for an order form, which will be sent home in your child’s backpack in the next week.

Finally, we need an army of volunteers to make Walk-A-Thon fun and safe for our students – watch for the volunteer sign up to come home with your child in April.  Volunteers must be VIRTUS trained and meet the schools’ requirements.

We are looking forward to a GREAT Walk-A-Thon in 2008!

GOODSEARCH…

What if Seton earned a penny every time you searched the Internet? Or how about if a percentage of every purchase you made online went to support our school? Well, now it can!

GoodSearch.com is a new Yahoo-powered search engine that donates half its advertising revenue, about a penny per search, to the charities its users designate. Use it just as you would any search engine, get quality search results from Yahoo, and watch the donations add up!

GoodShop.com is a new online shopping mall which donates up to 37 percent of each purchase to your favorite cause! Hundreds of great stores including Amazon, Target, Gap, Best Buy, eBay, Macy’s and Barnes & Noble have teamed up with Goodshop and every time you place an order, you’ll be supporting your favorite cause.

Just go to www.goodsearch.com and be sure to enter Seton as the charity you want to support. And, be sure to spread the word!

SCRIP

Thank you for continuing to support the Scrip program. In the month of January we earned $1072.86 for Seton School.

We will only have one order in March due to Easter Break. The order date is March 11th, sending home Scrip on March 13th.

We will have inventory in the middle school for any last minute Easter basket stuffers.

Head Coach Needed:  Pioneer Pacers Track and Field Team

The Pioneer Pacers Track and Field Team, which is comprised of student-athletes from Seton and Jordan Catholic Schools, needs a Head Coach for this season.  All 7th and 8th grade boys and girls may be members of this team

Due to an approaching change in employment, Steve Polito will not be available to coach, as originally planned.  Two persons already have volunteered to be assistant coaches, but neither one can make the commitment to be the head coach.  Mr. Polito has prepared a preliminary schedule of practices and meets, as well as materials regarding the daily practice routine, attendance, uniform ordering, and meet events.  He can help the new head coach during the first week of practice.  The season will begin on Monday, March 10th and conclude on Wednesday, May 14th.  (There are no practices or meets during the schools’ Easter break.)  With a few exceptions, all practices and meets are held Mondays through Fridays.  Practices are from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Stephens Park in Moline.  Meets begin at 4:30 p.m. and conclude about 7:00 p.m., and are held in East Moline, Edgington, Geneseo, Moline, and Rock Island.

We also are looking for several additional VIRTUS-trained adults (you do not have to be a parent) to assist in coaching the team.  Not all coaches have to attend every practice or meet.  If you are interested in helping coach, please call Steve at (309) 764-9741.

Reminder: Anyone planning on participating in track this spring must have a physical and appropriate paper work turned in. If you have any questions please check with Mr. Pagett.
