Monthly Newsletter

The Seton faculty and staff wish each of our families a very happy and healthy New Year!

AS THE SCHOOL YEAR BEGINS…

We return to school after the break on Monday, January 7th.  The 4th of January is the Feast of Elizabeth Ann Seton, the patroness of our school.  The students learn about the life of Mother Seton in January each year through books, videos, and classroom discussion.  She is the first American-born saint and serves as an example for all here at Seton.

We look forward to the celebration of Catholic Schools Week beginning on Sunday, January 27th.  Seton is part of the proud tradition of Catholic Schools and we look forward to seeing you all that week.

CAFETERIA WILL NOT BE CLOSED…

Cafeteria will not be closed from January 7th to January 11th as was stated in the newsletter that was sent home.  The installation of the new floor has been rescheduled for the summer.

CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK 2008…

Our “Catholic Schools: Touching Hearts, Inspiring Souls” Celebrate National Catholic Schools Week January 27, through February 1, 2008.  Seton School’s annual Open House will be held on Tuesday, January 26, 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.  Plan to spend the morning at school. Additional information will come home in January.

ABSENT/TARDY NOTES...

Parent Notes Regarding Absences and Tardies

As it states on page six of the Seton Catholic School Parent/Student Handbook, legal requirements mandate that notes be kept on file each time a student is absent or tardy.   Written notes must be on file in addition to a phone call.  PLEASE make it your practice to send a note with your student the first day they return after an absence.  PLEASE make it your practice to take the time to write a tardy note in the car and send it in with your student if they are late.  This will save a lot of time and recordkeeping for both secretaries.

BEFORE/AFTER SCHOOL REMINDERS

As per the Seton School Policy on Student Arrival and Departure in Appendix I of the Seton Catholic School Parent/Student Handbook, please be reminded that students may not be dropped off before 7:45 a.m. as the doors will be locked until that time. As per the policy we also expect that students will be picked up between 2:50 and 3:00 p.m.  If your student is not picked up by 3:00 p.m. they must come inside the front doors of the elementary and/or middle school buildings to wait until their ride arrives. This is necessary for the safety to our students. The latest students may be waiting for rides after school is 3:15 p.m. In the middle school building there are often 20 to 30 students waiting for rides after 3:00 p.m. and later. This has become a real safety issue due to limited space and personnel available to supervise the students.

Again, we provide supervision from 7:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. If students are here later than 3:15 p.m., they will be sent to T.A.S.K. in the elementary building and charged $3.00 per student. Also, students should not play on the playground after school unless they are under the direct supervision of a parent or designated adult. This has also become a safety and supervision problem, particularly with the older students.
