RELIGIOUS FOCUS FOR APRIL…

April is a month of contrasts. Winter is slowly and reluctantly giving way to spring. Liturgically we will be in the Easter season as we continue to celebrate the Resurrection and look forward to Pentecost. As our 8th graders prepare for Confirmation let us pray that we are all aware of the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives. The Spirit graces us with all that we need to answer our call to be God’s holy people each day.

2007 TAX CREDIT INFORMATION…

The 2007 tax credit information is available at the Middle School office.

PRESCHOOL/KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION…

Open House for the Children’s Place Preschool Program and Roundup for our kindergarten were held in March. If you have a child eligible for either program and you were planning to register them for the coming school year, please contact the elementary school office to obtain the necessary forms.

RE-REGISTRATION/REGISTRATION FOR 2008-2009

If you have not returned your re-registration forms for the next school year, please do so at once.  If you have misplaced them, please call either office to obtain another form.

STUDENT PLACEMENT FOR 2008-2009...

Families often inquire how the students are “placed” each school year. The answer is the current homeroom teacher decides placement for each of their students for the following school year.  Typically, the teachers in each grade level work together to decide the best placement for each student.  This is an extremely important process and several factors are considered. Many hours are spent by the teachers, meeting and discussing their students before final placement decisions are made.

*If you feel there is an extraordinary circumstance that the staff should be made aware of, please contact the principal.

HANDICAPPED PARKING

We are all aware that the parking situation around Seton both right before and after school can be challenging.  But it is very important that we all give due consideration to those who are truly in need of the handicapped parking spots.  There are several at the north end of Culemans Hall in the turn-around.  Please do not park in those or any other handicapped spots on school or church property unless you truly are qualified to use them.

CAFETERIA AND PLAYGROUND MONITORS NEEDED

We are in desperate need of more adults to work as cafeteria and playground monitors.  Even if you can only work a couple days each week we could use your help.

These are paid positions and the hours are from 11:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.  Please call 757-5500 and talk to Jane Barrett if you are interested.

PARENTS' CLUB

Parents’/Booster Club joint meeting on Thursday, April 8th at 7 p.m. in Culemans Hall.  It will honor the families whose youngest child will be graduating this year.

For the Parents’ Club minutes, please check our Seton’s website,

WALK-A-THON 2008…

Seton families will receive their Walk-A-Thon 2008 walker packets during the kick-off assembly on Friday, April 11th.  At the assembly, each Seton student will again receive a free Walk-A-Thon t-shirt thanks to the generosity of our t-shirt sponsors – McLaughlin Motors, Southeast National Bank and River Valley Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Ltd.  The YOUNGEST student in each family will receive a walker packet which contains all the information that your family will need to make this year’s Walk-A-Thon a tremendous success!

There are 25 wonderful prize packages for the top fundraising families!  And, an overall school incentive that is sure to make a splash!  EVERY family that turns in at least $1 in pledge money will receive a “wear what you want” pass for each child in the family.  Club levels are very attainable at $75 and $125 and earn your family a selection of prizes donated by our sponsors.  New this year, classrooms with 100% student participation will receive an ice cream party.  The fabulous prizes that we give away each year for the Walk-A-Thon are only possible because of the generosity of our event sponsors.  A listing of the sponsors will be in your family’s walker packet.  Please support these sponsors that help to make the Walk-A-Thon such a fabulous and successful event!

At the latest, all pledge money is due in the school office by Friday, April 25th at 2:50 p.m. to be eligible for prize consideration.  Any pledges received after April 25th are appreciated, but will not apply to award prizes.

The Walk-A-Thon is scheduled for Friday, May 2nd, with a rain date of Friday, May 9th.  Many volunteers are needed to make the Walk-A-Thon a fun and safe day for our children.  Volunteer sign-up information will be sent home with your student in the next few weeks.  Please volunteer to help continue the success of the Walk-A-Thon!

New this year, copies of forms including volunteer sign-up, additional donation receipts and pledge sheets are available on the school’s website www.setonschool.com under the “Development” tab.

Fire up for Walk-A-Thon 2008 and help to raise much-needed funds for Seton’s new social studies curriculum!

Thank you everyone that participated in our second annual trivia night.  It was very successful and good time was had by all. Thank you to all of the participants that helped break down tables and put away chairs to speed up the cleanup at the end of the evening.  That kind of help embodies the spirit and character that make Seton and its parents such a great school!

Because you designated our school and shopped with your Target Visa or Target Card, we recently received $1,241 from Target through their Take Charge of Education program. A big thanks – we couldn’t have done it without you.

Remember, grandparents, alumni, friends or neighbors can help too. They don’t even have to be local residents. Program details can be found at target.com/tcoe or by calling 1-800-316-6142.

GOODSEARCH/GOODSHOP

What if Seton earned a penny every time you searched the Internet? Or how about if a percentage of every purchase you made online went to support our cause? Well, now it can!

GoodSearch.com is a new Yahoo-powered search engine that donates half its advertising revenue, about a penny per search, to the charities its users designate. Use it just as you would any search engine, get quality search results from Yahoo, and watch the donations add up!

GoodShop.com is a new online shopping mall which donates up to 37 percent of each purchase to your favorite cause! Hundred of great stores including Amazon, Target, Gap, Best buy, EBay, Macy’s and Barnes & Noble have teamed up with GoodShop and every time you place an order, you’ll be supporting Seton.

Just go to www.goodserach.com and be sure to enter Seton as the charity you want

CUB SCOUT NEWS…

Cub Scouts will have a change of scenery this month as we move the April Pack meeting to Singing Bird Lodge in Blackhawk State Park, Rock Island. The theme for the April 28 meeting will be “Abracadabra.” Join us for the magical fun.

Plans also are being made for Join Hands Day on May 3. Last year, the scouts and their families held a workday at Seton – sprucing up the turnaround area – as part of the nationwide volunteer day. Details will be coming.

It also is not too early to be thinking about Cub Scout Summer Camp, July 7-11, at Blackhawk State Park. More details will be available at the Pack meeting.

Congratulations to three of the Webelos -- Kienan Otto, Teddy Grevas and Tyler McDanel, who crossed over to Boy Scouts in March. They now will join Troop 109. Good luck!
