October Parent's Club Minutes

The 1st Parent’s Club Meeting of the 2009-2010 school year was held on Tuesday October 13, 2009 at 7:00pm. President Leslee Schueneman called the meeting to order.

1)       Leslee Schueneman welcomed the attendees and introduced the Parent’s club officers.

2)       There was no correspondence.

3)       Minutes from the recent Education Commission meeting were read.

4)       Treasurer Paul Schmitt provided an updated financial report. 

5)       Mrs. Barrett provided the Principal’s Report:

i)         Staff Changes:

(1)     Linda VanderVennet has taken leave to assume the duties of principal at Our Lady of Grace.          

(2)     Lynn Bjork has been hired to replace Mrs. VanderVennet.

(3)     Jennifer Johnson left to pursue other interests.

(4)     Megan Heller has been hired to teach 1st grade.

ii)       Mrs. Barrett provided information regarding the school improvement plan which the staff worked hard on over the summer.  Areas of concentration include math, writing, and social/emotional skills. The “No bullying” initiative is an example of this plan in progress. Feedback has been positive.

iii)      Mrs. Barrett discussed the two new computer labs in the middle and elementary schools. The computers that were replaced in these labs were circulated into the class rooms to replace antiquated equipment being used by the teachers.

iv)      Mrs. Barrett also provided some basic information on the strategic plan from the Diocese including the new Vicariate Board. Information can be found on the Seton homepage.

6)       Committee reports:

i)         Memory Book: Pictures are needed from fall sports, 1st day of school, etc. Please submit any photos you have to Erin DeFrieze via 3B or 1J.

ii)       Scott Ronnenbeck provided the following updates:

(1)     Saturday March 20, 2010 is tentative date for Trivia night. Looking for volunteers to chair event.

(2)     2009 Golf outing was the best ever.

(3)     Volunteers for the fall fundraiser are set for set up and during the event. Still looking for more to do tear down on Sunday.

iii)      Spirit wear: There will be a Spirit wear store set up 1-2 times a month in Karla Larson’s office for students/parents to view and order apparel.

iv)      Wreath Sales kicked off with a all school assembly on October 8th. Orders are due November 2nd. Wreaths will be delivered on November 19th and distributed on 20th and 21st. Volunteers are needed for unloading and distribution. Contact Tim Adam.
