"The Children's Place" Pre-Kindergarten Program

The Children's Place, sponsored by Seton School, is a Catholic Pre-Kindergarten Program where children feel comfortable, happy, and successful. It is a place where they can expand their capabilities, enjoy learning, and have fun with their peers.

We will........

  • Provide a gentle, loving atmosphere where our first priority is the children's all around development and welfare.

  • Assist the children in developing caring, curious, responsible, and independent attitudes and behaviors.

  • Expose the children to the concept of God, as loving Father, and Jesus, as our friend.

  • Look forward to interacting with parents whose comments and suggestions are always welcome.

Important Information

Eligibility:

Children must be 4 years old on or before September 1 to attend. A copy of each child's birth certificate must be presented when registering your child. Children are required by law to have a recent (within past 2 years) physical examination and lead screening (after the age of 1) prior to the first day of school.

Contact Information:

The Children's Place may be contacted through the Seton Elementary School Office at (309)757-5500. All visitation arrangements are to be made through Mrs. Sally Jo Tappendorf, Pre-Kindergarten Teacher.

Location and Time:

The Children's Place is a 5 day a week Pre-Kindergarten Program. It is located at Culemans Hall, 17th Ave. and 14th St. Moline.

  • Morning Session:  8:15 - 11:00

  • Afternoon Session:  12:15 - 2:45

Attire:

The Seton dress code does not apply to our students until first grade. We suggest you dress your preschooler in comfortable, easy to manage clothing and tennis shoe, please.

Snack:

We will be asking your child to bring a nutritious snack to share with his/her friends. A non-sugar snack is best, saving the sweets for special parties and birthdays. Each month we will send a snack calendar home, so you will know in advance what day to send a pre-packaged snack with your child. It would be wonderful if you could also provide napkins that day.

  • Boxes of Tissues - 1

Pre-Kindergarten Preparation

To help prepare your child for Pre-Kindergarten, he/she needs:

  • His/Her name on all clothes and articles brought to school.

  • To dress in comfortable play clothes.

  • To bring a book bag and folder everyday to carry home papers, projects, and messages.

  • To dress independently with coat, hat, mittens, shoes, and boots.

  • A good night's sleep and nutritious breakfast.

  • To begin learning his/her full name, address, and phone number.

  • To be read to every day.

  • To observe details and listen attentively without interrupting.

  • To make choices and decisions.

  • To finish what he/she begins.

  • To have you take time to listen to his/her ideas and questions.

  • To have a comfortable routine.

  • To have a few important rules and follow them consistently.

  • To receive encouragement and praise.

  • To have you demonstrate your love and concern physically. (Hugs are wonderful!)

  • To encourage sharing and taking turns.

  • To treat others with kindness.

If your child sees, hears, and feels gentleness, kindness, and a caring attitude at both home and school, he/she will then emulate these behaviors.

Selecting a Pre-Kindergarten Program

Selecting a Pre-Kindergarten Program for your child is a very important decision. If possible, visit the school in person. Please make an appointment in advance with the teacher, so she will have time to talk with you.

Look for a philosophy that addresses all the areas of children's development: cognitive (thinking) skills, language development, large and small motor (muscle) skills, social skills, and emotional growth. The content of the curriculum should be delivered to children through enriched play experience, since children naturally learn through play. The teachers should create motivational experiences, and facilitate this learning through language development, manipulative units of study, music, and multiple experimental opportunities of discovery. The program needs to have a well balanced curriculum that will meet all the needs of your child.

Look for a positive approach to discipline. Are the school's methods consistent or compatible with yours?

Is there a warm, loving, cheerful, motivating environment in the classroom?

The final judge of a school must be you, the parent. No one knows the needs of your child better than you. All the "educational components" in the world cannot replace the loving atmosphere created by adults who really care!

All visitation arrangements are to be made through Mrs. Sally Tappendorf, Pre-Kindergarten Teacher. The Children's Place may be contacted through the Seton Elementary School Office at (309)757-5500. Please try to make you visitation plans in March or April. Contact Seton Catholic School for The Children's Place Open House date in March.
