Elementary Technology Education Program

Kindergarten

In Kindergarten, the computer curriculum focuses on helping children become comfortable in using computers and on learning to use the mouse. The computer will be used to reinforce most readiness skills that are taught within the kindergarten curriculum. Various educational software and creativity programs are used.  Upon leaving kindergarten, students should have a positive attitude towards computer technology.

First Grade

In Grade One, computer literacy is initiated by identifying the basic components of the computer. The students will begin basic keyboarding by locating letters, numbers, and special keys on the keyboard. The computer will be used to reinforce skills in the first grade curriculum areas. Various educational software and creativity programs are used.

Second Grade

In Grade Two, students increase their computer literacy through their understanding of simple computer terminology and through their ability to exercise proper care of the computer. They will begin a few basic keyboarding lessons using proper skills. The students will also begin to learn a word processing program. The computer will be used to reinforce second grade curriculum areas through various educational software, creativity programs, and use of the Internet.

Third Grade

In Grade Three, students will continue to increase their computer literacy using more advanced computer terminology, computer basics, and using computer peripherals such as printers and scanners. The students will focus on learning basic keyboarding skills. They will use a word processing program and learn the associated tools. The students will use the Internet and educational software to reinforce the third grade curriculum.

Fourth Grade

In Grade Four, students will continue to increase their computer literacy through computer terminology, computer ethics, and use of computer peripherals such as a digital camera. The students will continue to increase their keyboarding skills. They will focus on word processing skills and use these skills in writing assignments in all subject areas. They will begin to use spreadsheet software. They will use search engines on the Internet to locate information applicable to the fourth grade curriculum.

Computer Class Rules

1. Hands off keyboard and mouse until instructed to begin.
2. Listen to instructions carefully.
